Hi, I'm Shirley Salmon, owner of Shirley's Touch. I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.
I have always loved color and wished I could be an artist like my mother. However, it seems I was blessed with an eye for color and balance instead, so I am an artist of another kind.
My love for decorating started in high school. My Home Economics teacher, Ms. Williams, encouraged me to decorate my bedroom as my semester project. I remember using the vivid colors, red, black and grey, which was a pretty contemporary color combination for the 60's. I received and A+ on the project, so I was off and running, determined to change the looks of every room I encountered. The experience was over 40 years ago and I've been rearranging rooms ever since.
My career didn't exactly go in the decorating direction. I've owned and operated six restaurants, owned a multi-line insurance agency, was a real estate broker for 80 agents and last, but not least, traveled all over the United States representing a marketing and advertising agency. I believe this diverse background has exposed me to a true understanding of managing a business and helping people get what they want.
In 2004, I remarried and moved from Little Rock, AR to Dallas, Texas. That same year I retired. My husband and I bought a home on Cedar Creek Lake about four years ago and I have fallen in love with the lake, the area and the community. I found myself being at the lake house more than the Dallas house. In trying to figure out how I could spend more time at the lake, I started volunteering at our church, joined the Rotary and decided to come out of retirement. This is how Shirley's Touch was created. I am pleased I finally get to do what I love.
